Why Can't I Put a Link in the Text Box?
If you try typing a website URL (like www.mywebsite.com) directly into your bio text box where your quotes go, it will simply appear as regular, unclickable text. Instagram purposely disabled clickable links in the text field to prevent spam.
To make the URL turn blue and become clickable, you must use the official "Links" field in your profile settings.
Step-by-Step: Adding a Link to Your Bio
- Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android device.
- Tap your Profile Picture in the bottom right corner to go to your profile.
- Tap the "Edit Profile" button under your follower count.
- Find the section labeled "Links" and tap on it.
- Tap "Add external link".
- In the "URL" box, carefully type or paste your complete website address (e.g.,
https://www.yourwebsite.com). - In the "Title" box, you can type a custom name for the link (e.g., "Shop My Store" or "My YouTube"). This is optional but highly recommended!
- Tap the blue Checkmark (✓) or "Done" in the top right corner to save.
Need multiple links?
Did you know Instagram now allows you to add up to 5 links directly to your profile natively? You no longer need to pay for a third-party link tree app!
Learn How to Add 5 LinksHow to Call Attention to Your Link
Simply adding a link isn't enough; you need a strong "Call to Action" (CTA) to make your followers actually click it.
At the very end of your bio text (the line right above the clickable link), add a CTA using emojis pointing downward. Here are some "bio link on instagram" examples:
